Pratt Library Renovation Project
To better serve Pratt’s growing community, the Pratt Memorial Library is in the early planning stage to expand and renovate the existing facility. Tentative plans call for the library to close for renovations anywhere between February and May of 2024. During the renovation phase, the library is planning to relocate to a central location in downtown Ridgeland. The renovation is slated to take at least 12-15 months before reopening.
Thanks to the Jasper County Council, the library was included as one of its top three capital improvement projects for 2023.
Built in the early thirties, the Pratt Memorial Library was originally built as an elementary school. When the school closed in 1961, it was later transformed into the Pratt Memorial Library and the new library was dedicated on November 14, 1971.
No major renovation or upgrades have occurred since its inception 52 years ago. The library is well overdue for much needed improvements such as enhanced spaces for children, teens, and adults. The library aesthetics will be improved significantly from the antiquated surroundings currently visible.
